On August 4, we celebrated 232 years of the United States Coast Guard’s honorable service. Happy Birthday U.S. On June 1, 2022, the U.S. Coast Guard formally transitioned to new leadership. Admiral Linda L. Fagan (at right) was installed as its 27th Commandant, who notably, is also the first woman in history to oversee a United States Armed Forces service branch. Congratulations Admiral Fagan! The U.S.

Annual Memorial Day Ceremony (Part 2)

The Commander then gave a Memorial Day Remembrance talk after which he recognized Post 356 deceased members we lost during the previous 12 months.   The ladies of Post 356 Auxiliary then presented a Memorial Wreath in memory of all the service men and women that sacrificed all for our Country.  The Post Ladies Auxiliary President, Pat Korth, gave a closing prayer after which there was a Rifle Salute by the Post rifle squad, Taps were played and the Colors were retired.

Annual Memorial Day Ceremony (Part 1)

On May 30th the Post held it’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony in the parking lot of the Muskego City Hall.  The Color Guard Posted the Colors.  The Commander, Randy Reinke, led us with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Post Chaplin Gary Stewart gave an opening Invocation, followed by Muskego High School Senior Lily Dietzler singing the Nation Anthem.  The Vice-Commander Doug Scherer sang a patriotic song called “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda”.        

Memorial Day Ceremony for Tudor Oak Senior Living Community

The Muskego American Legion Post 356 had a busy Memorial Day, as usual.  It started out on May 24th when the Post held our usual Memorial Day Ceremony for Tudor Oak Senior Living Community on Shane Drive in Muskego.  Because of Covid restrictions, the residents that usually filled the theater were not present except for our members and a few staff.  The ceremony was televised on closed circuit for the residents.  This was the first time we held the ceremony on live TV.  We were told later it was very will received.

Dear Commemorative Partners, June marks Army Heritage Month and the Tuesday, June 14 anniversary of our Nation’s longest-established Service, which also, notably, is Flag Day! Happy 247th Birthday, United States Army! As its history unfolded, the U.S. Army was commonly associated with terms like infantry, artillery and armor. During the Vietnam War, however, the helicopter came of age, air mobility became the centerpiece of Army operations, and Vietnam was justifiably labeled as the "helicopter war"

“Decoration Day.” Founder John A. Logan, Grand Army of the
Republic commander in chief, designated it “for the purpose of
strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades
who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and
whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet
churchyard in the land.”
