Burning Flags

Saturday October 8, 2022, was the Muskego American Legion Post 356 annual American Flag Retirement Ceremony.

The Muskego American Legion, along with the City of Muskego, is responsible for the American Flags you see along Janesville Road, Racine Avenue, Pioneer Drive and Morland Road located in the Muskego City Limits.  The Flags fly from Spring through Veteran’s Day when the city removes the flags for the winter.  At that time the Flags that are not serviceable for the following year, are sorted out for retirement.

During the second Saturday of October, every year, the Muskego Legion holds a Retirement Ceremony to burn unserviceable flags, weather permitting, at the Muskego Old Settlement site.  The public is welcome to attend.

On Saturday October 8, the Legion burnt 290 unserviceable City highway flags plus American Flags from veteran grave sites in cemeteries in the Muskego area and several other American Flags dropped off by families or individuals to be included in the Retirement Ceremony.
